While collaborating with Scottish industries I have had behind-the-scene access at Speyside Cooperage, stood on helicopters in gigantic hangars at Aberdeen Heliport, captured life at the Shipyards of Aberdeen, Knockando Wool Mill and a Livestock Auction in Thainstone Mart. This multi-award-winning body of work capturing contemporary life at some of Scotland’s most iconic industries is on display at Duff House in Banff between 12th of October 2019 and 26th of January 2020. Preview is between 2 and 4 PM on the 12th of October 2019.

The work touches on classical subjects, such as harbours and dockyards (the fundamental aspects as such still recognisable to a longshoreman of the 15th century), it looks at a cooperage where the coopers with their aprons, traditional tools and hand-crafted methods make it feel like entering a pre-existing time, yet too it describes truly modern aspects of life, such as the helicopter, a machine of considerable engineering sophistication and refinement, playing a unique role in today’s aviation.

But above all my work focusses on the people living and working in Scotland, referred to the locals around my studio as my mannies, absorbed in work and play, and at one with their environment.
